Shelter + Care Program

The Housing Authority of Myrtle Beach (MBHA), Waccamaw Housing Inc. (WHI) and the Waccamaw Center for Mental Health (WCMH) have partnered in the Shelter Plus Care Program, which provides rental assistance for hard-to-serve homeless persons with disabilities in connection with supportive services

Shelter Plus Care (S+C) is a program designed to provide housing and supportive services on a long-term basis for homeless persons with disabilities and their families who are living in places not intended for human habitation (e.g., streets) or in emergency shelters. The program allows for a variety of housing choices, and a range of supportive services funded by other sources, in response to the needs of the hard-to-reach homeless population with disabilities.

All applicants are referred through WCMH.

Supportive Housing Program - Home Alliance Inc. (HAI), The Housing Authority of Myrtle Beach (MBHA), Little River Medical Center (LRMC) and the Waccamaw Center for Mental Health (WCMH) have partnered in the Supportive Housing Program, which provides rental assistance for chronically homeless persons with disabilities.

The Supportive Housing Program (SHP) helps develop housing and related supportive services for people moving from homelessness to independent living. Program funds help homeless people live in a stable place, increase their skills and their income, and gain more control over the decisions that affect their lives. This type of supportive housing enables special needs populations to live as independently as possible in a permanent setting.

MBHA works closely with Waccamaw Center for Mental Health and Little River Medical Center to administer this program. All applicants are referred through WCMH or LRMC.

Alliance Inn  The Housing Authority of Myrtle Beach has project based HCV vouchers at Alliance Inn.This project consists of 54 residential housing units designed to serve victims of domestic violence along with homeless families and individuals.Alliance Inn provides on site supportive services for residents including counseling and a full service medical clinic run by LMRC.

All tenants must be referred by agencies that provide services to the homeless. All applications are taken at the Alliance Inn office.

Home TBRA Program  The Home/TBRA rental assistance program is designed to provide housing for the chronically homeless males in the Horry County Area. Waccamaw Center for Mental Health and Little River Medical Center act as our outreach partners. Our partners take the initial applications and refer the proposed tenants to the Housing Authority of Myrtle Beach.

As well as outreach, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health and Little River Medical Center provide mental health care, case management, drug and alcohol treatment referrals and medical attention as needed.
